Established in 2007, the OLV Parish K of C council now has over 150 members and continues to grow each year. The Knights of Columbus (K of C) is the world’s largest Catholic men’s fraternal organization. Check out the links for more detailed information on the history, accomplishments and vision of the organization. The Knights also provide opportunities to get to know fellow parishioners in the relaxed atmosphere at our monthly meetings and social gatherings and side-by-side in our numerous charitable endeavors.
The council generally meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m., in the Father Ernie Center below the main sanctuary at OLV. An announcement is usually made the preceding Sunday before Mass as a reminder.
Please note that in the tradition of the Knights of Columbus only First Degree members and above may attend the monthly meetings (except for the rib night).
The first step to actually becoming a Knight is the First Degree initiation ceremony. As mentioned above, becoming a First Degree member is required before attending the monthly membership meetings (other than at the Rib Night). First degree ceremonies are offered at OLV and surrounding councils on a regular basis. Contact the Grand Knight if you are interested.
You may alsojoin onlineby going to the KofC National Organization website and clicking the join icon on the main page.
A popular event for both prospective and current members is the annual pork Rib Night. This event is will be held the first Tuesday in March, at 7:00 p.m., in the Father Ernie Center. This open event is held in lieu of the normal monthly meeting. There is no obligation and you would not be the first to visit us a few times before taking the plunge.
Note also that many council activities besides the monthly meeting are open to non-Knights who may be thinking of joining, or who just want to join us in our charitable or recreational activities.
Some start by browsing this and the linked websites. Consider talking to a Knight you already know. The council also supports donut days when they occur after Sunday Mass with helpers and there is usually an information table as well.
To aid councils and their families in fostering devotion to the Guardian of the Holy Family, the new Knights of Columbus produced documentary, St. Joseph: Our Spiritual Father is now available. It features powerful testimonials and interviews with leading experts and theologians. The film provides you a glimpse into the life of one of the Church's greatest saints--and how his spiritual fatherhood remains open to all of us.
