As we prepare for this season, perhaps consider that Lent isn’t necessarily just about giving things up, but doing a little something extra for someone. Our theme this lent is “Renewed in Faith”. As we begin our journey, may Jesus show us renewed faith as we spread our faith to others. We are collecting all donated items and monetary donations through Sunday, April 6.
Wee care provides help to women and their babies when other organizations or public agencies cannot meet their needs. Over 600 families are helped each year because of your generosity. Pick up a colored egg in the Gathering Space—each contains a needed basic baby item to purchase. If you would like to make a monetary donation, please make checks payable to LIFESPAN Wee Care.
This Lent we are collecting (wrapped in cellophane) Easter baskets for a Boy or Girl (Ages 3-12) for St. Dominic’s Outreach Center. We are hoping to collect 120 baskets. Please return your filled basket to the crate found in the Gathering Space. Ideas for a basket; WWJD/other religious bracelets, children’s rosaries, beginning Bible books/stories about our faith, bubbles, chalk, jump ropes, gliders, kites, word search puzzles, sudoku puzzles, Barbie dolls, trucks or matchbox cars, craft items, chocolates crosses, candy items, basketballs, soccer/kick/nerf ball. The Center seems to run out of baskets for the boys.
Please consider donating new or cleaned but gently used First Communion dresses, veils, suits, ties, socks (boys/girls) and shoes for children in Detroit area parishes who would otherwise go without. Many parents are struggling financially and purchasing such items can be almost impossible. If purchasing new items, please consider sizes 8, 10 or 12 or consider purchasing a DSW gift card (Designer Shoe Warehouse) to purchase shoes. The need is great. All outfits can be hung on the clothing rack in the Gathering Space.
St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) owns and operates a free summer camp program for qualifying boys and girls, ages 8-14. Camp Ozanam has served over 119,000 children since 1923 and is located on the shores of Lake Huron. There is a special “Loving Arms” camp for those children dealing with the loss of a family member. Camp Oz is a great place for campers to pray, ponder and play! The camp can handle many more children but lacks the funds. Donations will allow more children to benefit from this experience. Please make checks payable to St. Vincent de Paul—memo line: Camp Ozanam.
